From puffies and shells to insulating layers, First Ascent captured the attention of Outside magazine’s Winter Buyer’s Guide.
Mountain Guide Jacket
“This water-resistant, quick-drying shell is lightweight but still roomy enough to layer underneath.”
Bat Hang Hoodie
“A piece we kept coming back to: it’s soft, moisture-wicking, and quick-drying and has a hood for extra warmth.”
Peak XV Down Jacket
“Easily the warmest jacket here, the XV is absolutely stuffed with top-tier down (850 fill) and wrapped in a tougher-than-average DWR nylon shell. It’s a bit heavier–but a lot burlier–than other down jackets we tested.”

In its October issue, Backpacker rated the Big Tahoma five out of five possible boots, praising the pack’s durability: “You’d need a belt sander to damage the 1,000-denier Cordura.” Read More…

First Ascent is a favorite of Backpacker magazine field testers, the BC-100 and Downlight Sweater received rave reviews in the September apparel guide. Testers wore the BC-100 on a 250-mile hike in Maryland, spending 18 days on the trail with rain or sleet on most days. One tester claimed the BC-100 was “critical to us finishing our trip.” The First Ascent Downlight Sweater was voted the best all-around puffy, “nailing the essentials: high draftproof collar, grapefruit-size packability, roomy zipped pockets and light rain resistance – without layering on doodads that add weight or bulk.” Backpacker’s Editor in Chief Jon Dorn added, “Hands down the best-fitting puffy I’ve ever worn.
